For over five generations, the Fredericks family has been an integral part of the South Coast’s landscape, shaping its development while helping to preserve its unique character. From humble beginnings in dairy farming to now building new communities, their journey is a testament to the enduring connection between family, community, and the land they call home.
Now, siblings Jennifer Macquarie and Lawson Fredericks are continuing this legacy through their management of The Fountaindale Group, and the development of Golden Valley Jamberoo. Jennifer, reflecting on her childhood, shares, “Growing up in Jamberoo was magical. After school, we’d roam the town, greeting local business owners and often lending a hand. It truly embodied the saying ‘it takes a village’. That sense of community and unity is something I cherish to this day.”
The story begins with the Fredericks family’s roots in dairy farming, a tradition that spanned five generations and instilled in them a deep appreciation for the South Coast’s natural beauty and agricultural heritage. This connection to the land would later inform their approach to property development, always mindful of preserving the essence of the region they loved.
Lawson adds, “Our childhood on the family dairy farm instilled in us a deep appreciation for this community. The tranquillity and safety of farm life shaped who I am. We want to provide young families the opportunity to experience the same charming, safe environment we enjoyed growing up in Jamberoo.”
In 1972, recognising the changing economic landscape, the family made a pivotal decision to transition into property development. This move marked the birth of what would eventually become the Fountaindale Group, now helmed by Jennifer and Lawson, alongside their father Neville Fredericks.
Over the past five decades, the Fountaindale Group has left an indelible mark on the Illawarra, South Coast, and Southern Highlands regions of NSW. With over 80 successful projects under their belt, many in joint ventures with landowners and investors, they’ve demonstrated not just business acumen but a genuine commitment to community development.
“We’re not just developing land,” explains Jennifer. “We’re creating a space where families can build their own legacies, much like our family has done for five generations.”
What sets the Fredericks family apart is their unwavering dedication to their core values. Kindness, mutual respect, and shared benefits are not just buzzwords but principles deeply embedded in every aspect of their business. These values, passed down through generations, guide their relationships with partners, shape their projects, and inform their vision for the communities they help build.
The family’s latest venture, Golden Valley Jamberoo, is perhaps the most personal yet. It represents a beautiful opportunity to give back to the community that has been their home for generations. This project embodies their commitment to preserving Jamberoo’s unique character while contributing to its growth and prosperity.
“We’re committed to sustainable growth that benefits the entire community,” Lawson emphasises. “It’s about maintaining Jamberoo’s essence while allowing it to thrive.”
The Fredericks family’s approach to development is characterised by meticulous planning and a people-first philosophy. They prioritise creating spaces where families can thrive, focusing on traditional township designs that foster a sense of community. This is exemplified in projects like Tullimbar Village near Albion Park, where the emphasis is on complementary architecture rather than individualistic or bland homogeneity.
As the selling agent for Golden Valley Jamberoo, Jennifer looks forward to personally connecting with prospective buyers. Her approach is warm and personalised, reflecting the family’s belief that building a community is about more than just selling land – it’s about helping people find their place in a story that spans generations.
“We’re honoured to help shape Jamberoo’s future and contribute to the local economy,” Jennifer concludes. “It’s our way of giving back to the community that has given us so much.”
As Golden Valley Jamberoo takes shape, it stands as a testament to the Fredericks family’s enduring commitment to the South Coast. It’s a continuation of a family legacy, a gift to the community they love, and an invitation for others to become part of this rich, ongoing story.
