In today’s fast-paced world, finding a place where community truly matters and where a traditional village spirit thrives is a rare treasure.
When you’ve experienced Jamberoo, you’ll realise just how special and rare this sense of traditional, old-school connected lifestyle is, and you wouldn’t want to let go of that feeling ever again.
It’s a town where neighbours look out for each other, children can grow up feeling safe and free, and locals rally behind small businesses to keep the heart of the village beating strong.
Life here is shaped by shared values, where the pace is slower, connections run deeper, and the quality of life is enriched by the simplicity of a village lifestyle. It’s a place where young families thrive, retirees find peace, and everyone has the chance to be part of something meaningful.
We’ve spoken to local business owners about to give us a glimpse into life in Jamberoo.
One of Jamberoo’s most enduring stories of community and craftsmanship comes from Trevor Symonds of C&C Symonds Pty Ltd, a family-owned building company now in its fourth generation. What makes Trevor’s business so special, is that its connection to Jamberoo, and specifically to the Fredericks family behind Golden Valley, goes back decades.
“My father Chris built The Fredericks family home in Jamberoo in the early 80’s,” Trevor recalls. “Neville and Jill engaged one of Australia’s most unique residential Architects in Glenn Murcutt, who designed a magnificent timber, glass and corrugated iron house wrapping around an existing brick fireplace and chimney that belonged to an original farmhouse long gone.”
This project, which won a Master Builders of Australia Award, was just the beginning of a long-standing relationship between the Symonds and Fredericks families. Today, Trevor maintains that same house for its current owner, bringing the story full circle as he considers purchasing land in Golden Valley.
Trevor’s vision for Golden Valley aligns perfectly with Jamberoo’s character. “My hope for the individual housing designs would be to follow in the footsteps of the heritage of the area and consider Country Farmhouse style in lieu of Coastal Modern or Double Storey mass,” he explains. This attention to local character and quality is a common thread among Jamberoo’s businesses.
For new families and investors purchasing land at Golden Valley, C&C Symonds Pty Ltd would be an excellent choice for home builders. Someone who truly understands the local aesthetic, climate and building requirements… and will make you feel at home from the get-go. Luke Warner of Illawarra Arborist has been operating in Jamberoo for almost a decade. He emphasises the town’s supportive nature: “Jamberoo has a small-town feel and we have found that residents like to support small, local businesses!”
This sentiment is echoed by Steve McCure of Jamberoo Valley Meats, who took over the historic butcher shop in 2021. “The business community in Jamberoo is welcoming, collaborative, and passionate about supporting each other,” Steve shares. “We have a strong sense of local pride, and many of the businesses here are family-owned or have close roots in the town.”
Barbie from Jamberoo Valley Farm offers a unique perspective as both a business owner and a relatively new resident. Running a farm stay for the past five years, she’s witnessed firsthand the appeal of Jamberoo’s slower pace of life.
“We love that we can offer people a chance to step away from the busyness of life and experience the warmth and charm that makes Jamberoo so unique,” Barbie explains. Her farm stay embodies the very essence of what draws people to Jamberoo—the opportunity to reconnect with nature and each other.
As Jamberoo prepares for growth with developments like Golden Valley, local business owners are optimistic about the future. Luke Warner sees the potential for more local work and support, while Steve McCure believes that “a growing population could help fuel a vibrant local economy while maintaining the town’s unique character.”
Trevor Symonds notes that Golden Valley’s design will complement Jamberoo’s existing charm: “The larger lot sizes allow a much greater scope in house design, allowing single story residences and not forcing double storey homes to achieve the floor space. There will be room between neighbouring homes allowing each home to take advantage of the sun and breeze, create gardens and lawns and make an attractive street scape.”
For those considering a move to Jamberoo, whether to raise a family or enjoy retirement, the message from local businesses is clear: you’ll be welcomed with open arms. As Barbie puts it, “Jamberoo has such a wonderful, welcoming spirit. The local businesses here aren’t just about making a living—they’re about sharing something they love with others.”
From the skilled craftsmanship of multi-generational builders to the fresh produce at the local butcher, from expert arborists maintaining the town’s green spaces to charming farm stays offering a taste of country life, Jamberoo’s businesses reflect the town’s unique character. They’re the heart of a community that values quality, tradition, and genuine human connection.
